Rolfe Street Swimming Baths

Selection of photographs of the swimming baths in Smethwick. Completed in 1888 the baths provided both washing facilities and two swimming pools, at a time when few houses had running water. The baths stood for almost one hundred years in Smethwick, and were removed to the Museum site in 1991. The impressive three storey frontage has ornamental brickwork and moulded terracotta panels depicting fish, herons and other wildlife - look out for them on your way out of the Museum!
