Robert Plant was born in West Bromwich, educated at King Edward VI Grammar School in Stourbridge, and made his first public appearance as a teenager at Stourbridge's Seven Stars Blues Club. In 1968 he joined Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Plant's contribution to the Led Zeppelin sound was his expressive voice, first given reign on the seminal "Led Zeppelin II" released in 1969. Since the group's retirement in 1980, he has embarked on a successful solo career, winning much critical approval.
