Darby Hill Quarry

Rowley Regis has always been famous for the quarrying of the basalt rock or 'Hailstone' known locally as Rowley Rag. This rag is still used for roadmaking today, by such firms as Tarmac. Although Turner's Hill is the best known quarry it also took place at Darby Hill. Photograph shows a gravel crusher in operation.
