
Taken at Samuel Downing's Ironworks, Golds Hill, 1913. Little is known about the person expcept that he was a shingler. Note: his leather apron, sheet iron leg and foot guards. They were strapped on like cricketers pads. Pieces of sacking to hold the tongs were necessary as they got very hot. The man is wearing a face screen which he only pulled down when actually hammering the ball.
