The yard of Mitchells and Butler, c.1930s. The photogrpah shows all the delivery vehicles and wooden beer barrells ready for delivery. The company was started in 1861 by Henry Mitchell and merged with W. M. Butler in 1898 which in turn merged with Bass in 1961. William Butler started work as a barman in the Old Crown Inn and brewery, Broad Street, Birmingham. The second photogpraph was taken early this century and the pub, minus the roof boards and wooden facia, is trading today. The brewery is also still standing.
