William Perry was born in Tipton in 1819 and was Champion of England Bare Knuckle Boxer between 1850 and 1857. He held court at the Fountain Inn, Tipton, not far from the site of a statue erected in his honour in 1993. He was buried in Kate's Hill churchyard, Dudley in 1880.
