Established in Smethwick as an engineering concern producing small pumps the company gained international recognition when it developed the hydraulic pumps and jacks used by Brunel to help launch the "Great Eastern". The company expanded to become one of the major employers in Smethwick, exporting steam engines, pumps and jacks all over the world.
