Veal's Breadshop

Do you recognise this shop? You may have seen it in the Museum village. It was built as a replica of Mr Veal's Baker's Shop, Birmingham Street, Oldbury. Originally a confectioner, Mr Veal purchased numbers 48 and 50, Birmingham Street along with a bakehouse and outbuildings in 1879 for seven hundred pounds. The shop remained in the family until the 1920s and was then run by Mr & Mrs Harvey - often remembered by local people as 'Harveys'. This photograph dates from around 1910.
