
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS:Overhead valve four stroke engine. Binks carburettor, three speed, AJS gearbox, Druid patent forks, large diameter exhaust pipe (hence the nickname ?Big Port?), hand change, drum brakes front and back. HISTORY:A rare early example of AJS new trend-setting design, first introduced in November 1922, and latterly known as the ?Big Port?. The aim was to produce a machine with a ?racer on the road? performance and this proved successful in the hands of many ?privateer? racers.This machine is believed to be the oldest surviving ?Big Port? and retains its matching frame/engine numbers.Basic design of this model changed little up to 1929. The machine featured in the August 1992 issue of ?The Classic Motorcycle? in its article on ?Big Port? history.
