Mary Macarthur founded the N.F.W.W. in 1906, to cater for women, who were working in unorganised trades, or who were not accepted into membership of the relevant men's unions. It organised more women, fought more strikes and did more to establish women trade unionists, than any other organisation. Much of its achievement was due to the clear sighted and determined leadership of Mary Macarthur.
